Home victory for Long Eaton under 8's

With goalkeeper Nathan at home in bed unwell, Long Eaton started with Niall in goal, Brad at the back in front of Ashley, Ben, Sam and Chris in midfield and Cala up front. Ethan started on the bench.

The game began with Long Eaton dominant. Ben won lots of ball in midfield and drove the team forward. Both he and Cala were unlucky with early efforts that flashed just wide of the goal. It was not long, however, before Chris evaded two tackles on the left before shooting from just inside the area into the far corner of the goal.

A well deserved 1-0 lead for Long Eaton. Straight from the Kick Off, West Bridgeford fashioned their first real chance of the game and the ball drifted just wide of the post as Niall came out to narrow the angle. Long Eaton soon responded though and following a great run from Cala, Chris crossed the ball into the middle for Ben to drive it home. 2-0 to Long Eaton.

The whole team were playing well as a unit. Brad was sweeping up everything that came his way at the back, Ashley was making some excellent tackles, Sam was aggressive all over the midfield area and Ethan added further steel to the team when he came on. However, with Long Eaton in control, West Bridgeford pulled a goal back when a corner was only half cleared. Undeterred, Long Eaton continued attacking and following yet another strong Cala run forward, Chris fired in a cross shot, which looked goal bound, and Ethan added the final touch to ensure that Long Eaton were 3-1 up at half time.

Long Eaton carried on in the second half where they finished off
in the first half on the attack. A succession of corners were forced and Ethan, Chris and Cala went close. Following a period of pressure, shots from Chris and Cala were blocked before Ben forced home his second goal of the game. 4-1 to Long Eaton. Following more corners, Ben crossed from the right for Chris to coolly slot home with his left foot. 5-1 to Long Eaton and two for Chris. If we had some Opta stats available for the game (which we don’t) Cala would undoubtedly of had the most shots for Long Eaton. Today, however, the luck was not with her, but she led the line superbly.

Two more goals were to follow. First,
Chris completed his hat-trick with an angled left foot shot from the edge of the area before Sam got a well deserved goal shooting hard and low from just inside the area after Chris’s shot had been saved by the overworked West Bridgeford goalkeeper.

7-1 to Long Eaton and an excellent team performance. Particularly pleasing was the way the team passed the ball around in the second half and created chance after chance. From Niall’s assured performance in the unfamiliar position of goalkeeper right the way through the team, each player was on top of their game. Roll on Dunkirk next week!
