Spirited Aslockton hold chasing Rolls Royce to a draw in a tense and exciting match.
With only one point seperating the teams in the league this game always promised to be a gripping clash and we were not dissappointed.
Although playing at home, Aslockton were at a definate disadvantage with only seven players, no goalie and no substitutes against a strong 10 man Rolls Royce squad.
Losing the toss, Aslockton played the first half with the winter sun against them and went behind after only seven minutes. Nevertheless, the home team did not give up and were rewarded by a goal for centre-forward WILSON from a cross by mid-fielder HARDY, who had a terrific game, putting important tackles in and flying down the right wing, to earn himself Man of the Match. For the rest of the half Aslockton's defenders TONG, BLATHERWICK and DAWS were kept busy and together with BEARDSLEY in goal away from his normal defensive duties, their determination and skill kept Aslockton in the game and ended the half level.
The second half started well for the home team with mid-fielder DEXTER constantly threatening the visitors goal down the left wing and Aslockton soon went ahead with a second goal for WILSON despite being shadowed by two Rolls Royce defenders.
This was the cue for more pressure from Rolls Royce and with substititions and fresh legs they eventually managed to score to end the game in a draw, although only a goal-line clearance by Aslockton's DAWS denied the visitors victory, a result the home team were happy with in the circumstances and deserved after a brave and gutsy performance which kept them third in the table.
