AFC Vernon White v Aslockton Cranmers FC U9 - 15/01/2006 | Print |

Visiting Aslockton Cranmers grab a point from unlucky Vernon in top-of-table clash.

Despite losing to them earlier in the season and a month long lay-off over Christmas, Aslockton Cranmers came to Vernon determined to get a result but despite some skillful football from the visitors it was the home side who went ahead early in the game from a corner kick.

Nevertheless, ACFC fought back and gained an equaliser before half-time from right-winger HARDY with a powerful shot from outside the box, across the face of the goal into the left corner.

Vernon came out fighting in the second half and after sustained pressure on the visitors goal went ahead again, although without some stout defending from BLATHERWICK, BEARDSLEY and TONG and brave goal-keeping from MUSSERT it could have been much worse for the visitors.

Vernon continued attacking and had a number of chances they were unlucky not to convert but Aslockton always looked dangerous on the break with centre-forward WILSON occupying two Vernon defenders and with DEXTER battling hard on the left wing, he was soon rewarded with a goal from a fine solo effort developing from a good ball deep in ACFC's half from defender DAWS.

All in all, Aslockton came away more than happy with a point after battling hard against a Vernon team who played aggressive and skillful football and always threatened to go ahead at any time.
