Saturday 3 December saw us play host to Pegasus Youth Broncos

At the start of the first half the Young Blues were placed on the defensive side of play, with Pegasus launching a convincing attack. The first few minutes of play had the Young Blues on their toes and chasing the ball.

Around the fifth minute mark Long Eaton conceived a corner. The ball was well struck by the Pegasus player and found itself in the Blues box, with a deflection from one of the Young Blues the ball found the back of the net.

Not deterred by this, the Young Blues put more pressure on Pegasus and bravely fought back. After about 5 minutes of intense play from both sides Ethan made a brake up the wing and made a long pass over to Chris who slotted the ball home to bring the Blues equal.

Once the game had restarted, Pegasus applied even more pressure on the Young Blues but the Blues responded well and held Pegasus until the 15th minute when Pegasus made a break and managed to slot another in the back of the net.

The young blues then intensified their play and 2 minutes later managed to win a corner. Chris stepped up to take the corner and lobbed the ball high in to the opponent’s box, where it was deflected in to the back of the net by a Pegasus player, bringing the score line level again.

The rest of the first half saw both teams fight hard and at the half time whistle the score line was level at 2 – 2.

The second half saw the Young Blues kick off with both sides having chances on goal but failing to finish. Things were to change 8 minutes in when Sam lobbed the ball into the back of the net, scoring his first goal for Long Eaton United and taking Long Eaton in front.

For the next 12 minutes the play was equal for both sides and saw some tremendous saves by Nathan and the Pegasus keeper. It was not until the final minutes of injury time that Chris slotted his third goal of the match in the back of the net. Bringing the team a well deserved win and something they have been striding for the last few games.

The final score Long Eaton United 4 – Pegasus Youth Bronco’s 2

The managers commented that the team is looking stronger, with this being one of the strongest games they have played this season and when players start to work together anything can happen. Today was just an example of what the team is capable of and we have every faith they will continue to grow in strength.
