Sunday 11th March 2007 Hucknall Sports 2 - Kimberley Miners Welfare Black 0

Kimberley Miners Welfare Black Under 8's started there second of three cup group games with an away fixture against Hucknall Sports in the YEL President’s Cup Group Stages. The conditions couldn’t have been any better for the players and spectators on a sunny dry Sunday morning. Hucknall applied the early pressure in the first ten minutes of the game, going 1-0 up after the Kimberley Goalkeeper and the days Captain Palmer palmed out an excellent striker from the attacking Hucknall

which fell to an Hucknall player who tapped in the rebound, Kimberley then found themselves 2-0 down after an excellent header from the Hucknall Number 7 after a ball was whipped in from the left. The Kimberley side brushed themselves off, shell shocked going 2-0 down in the first 10. Wrenn in the central midfield position,Barlow on the left and Hindle on the right upped the tempo in Midfield, battling hard with a very good Hucknall Midfield. Palethorpe, applied the pressure with good running and skill attacking the Hucknall goal, the Kimberley defenders lifted there game with good work from Hunt and Taylor stopping the advancing Hucknall Midfielders and Striker, half time came but Kimberley had picked themselves up and got right back into the game, all they need was the goal. Hunt and Taylor the Kimberley Defenders started the second half in fine form pressurizing Hucknall as soon as they came forward. Wrenn and Hindle combined well on the right, Wrenn spotting Palethorpe darting into the Hucknall area knocking a low driven cross inches away from the striker Palethorpe as he slid in trying to make contact with the ball, Kimberley carried on attacking not giving Hucknall chance to get out there own half with Hunt and Taylor controlling the Kimberley defence, Palethorpe forcing a good save from the Hucknall Keeper after good skill and work on the left from Barlow, Hucknall pressed on only to be stopped by the Kimberley Keeper Palmer who was quick coming off his line when the ball got into his area, Kimberley replied advancing into the Hucknall half looking for the goal even Hunt and Taylor pushed deep into the Hucknall half. Kimberley made two subs Storer on for Hindle who had taken a knock, and Rosier on for Palethorpe who had battled well with the Hucknall defenders. Storer and Rosier getting straight into the game were the others had left off, Storer showed good skill on the right combining well with Wrenn,Rosier and Barlow but it wasn’t to be, Kimberley being the better of the two sides second half but Hucknall proved they were a very good side holding off Kimberley who threw everything at them second half. This game was a great display of football from both sides, credit to all the players involved as the game was played in a good fair sporting spirit, even though this was Kimberley’s first defeat in there last 7 games, they should be very pleased with there team spirit and performance.

Ian Palethorpe
