Pelican Colts v Arnold Town Under 13's Wednesday 4th October Last Wednesday evening a large crowd assembled to see the Saturday U13 Div 1 clash between Pelican Colts and Arnold Town Yellow played under floodlights at the Dave Eastwood Memorial Ground, in what turned out to be a pulsating game. Arnold were quickly out of the blocks, catching Pelican cold and firing into the lead after just 3 minutes.
Pelican gradually recovered and pressed forward with Arnold playing on the counter. Some fine flowing football from Pelican eventually saw them break through, after a number of near misses, in the 20th minute, when a long range effort from the edge of the area found its way in to the Arnold net. Arnold immediately rallied coming close themselves, but 6 minutes from the break Pelican were at it again when another shot from the edge of the area arrowed home. The second half saw an immediate reversal of fortunes from the first with Pelican going straight up the field and scoring from their first attack. The final goal of the game arrived in the 52nd minute and took Pelican into an unassailable 4 – 1 lead. This was an exciting, fast paced and well contested game throughout, with high skill levels, both individual and collective, being exhibited by both sets of players, who were a credit to themselves, their coaches and the league.
