Vernon leave it late to turn chances into victory

AFC Vernon U-8 Red came out of this encounter three nil victors but they left it late to turn their sustained pressure into a victory. The first half started with Vernon having the vast majority of the posession and chances and were unlucky not to go into the break after a number of near misses, last ditch clearences and some outstanding goalkeeping from the Calverton 'keeper. The second half started much as the first had and as the half wore on it looked like the game would end up 0-0. With five minutes to go Vernon's continual pressure told and Heer stroke the decisive opener. Minutes later Patterson-White made it 2-0 with a strike from distance and Goddard sealed the victory with effectively the last kick of the game. The game was played out with a fantastic spirit amongst the players and spectators. Both sides put 100% effort into this game and it showed at the end. Well Done to both sides. Special mentions for Patterson-White for Vernon and Calverton's goalkeeper who was truely outstanding.

Daniel White
